"What A Lovely Day:
A Reflection Upon Hearing the Morning Weather Forecast Over the Radio"
Sometimes
I predict the weather
I think that today
Will be terrible
But
The radio already proclaimed otherwise
Although
It has barely begun
And there isn’t really
Sufficient evidence to prove
Today will be beautiful
Nevertheless
They confidently anticipate
A comfortable high of sixty six
And forty two as the low
It’ll be partly sunny
Actually
More like mostly sunny
Just a wisp
Of white here and there
And there’ll be a faint breeze
Just enough
To kiss the lovers’ cheeks
As they casually stroll
Through fields of green
Speckled with fragrant flowers
Well actually
The fields are littered
With parasitic clover
And pesky dandelions
That scatter their seeds
Among innocent blades
And there are bees that sting
And stir up the pollen
That upsets my allergies
Also
They said that today
There will certainly be
A stunning golden sphere
In the bright, clear blue sky
And then
For a moment
I believe that
In fact
Today might just be wonderful
And I’ll happily smile
Because
There won’t be ominous clouds
Or empty gray skies
Or violent rain and thunder
Or perpetual lonlieness
Instead
There will only be sunshine
Those heavenly golden rays
Radiating Vitamin D
And joyous splendor
Suddenly
I have an epiphany
Those golden rays
Do not bring happiness
Rather
They rain ultraviolet light
Which
Eventually will cause cancer
That will kill you
So now
I want the cloudy skies back
I don’t need the sun
And its harmful rays
That result in wrinkly brown skin
Dappled with irregular moles of death
Because
I can get my vitamin D from rhubarb and fortified milk
And my daily multivitamin
That supplements
My balanced diet
So then
I can still maintain normal levels of phosphorous and calcium in my bloodstream
Without extraneous exposure
To the dangerous
Blazing ball of gas
We revolve around daily
Anyway
Happiness is overrated
The clouds always seem to come out eventually
