tonight we celebrate June differently
no dancing half naked around a fire
or trading stories of fact and of fiction
tonight we drink to each other,
our wine settling in our cups
cooling our hands, cooling our hearts
no roughing or bondage
just love.
tonight we celebrate.
at this time two years prior
I was scrubbing all the skin off my bones
trying to find what's deep enough
to make me feel something
ripping through the pages of my life
searching for something
or someone
all the match makers in heaven
could never predict this touch we have
I'm inside your lungs
inside your mouth
you taste sugar
but I don't create cavities
spin me,
twirl me,
entwine me in the web of your mind
wrap my body around yours
just a snake to a river
slither into me.
tonight we celebrate fireworks
the sky lit up above our heads
and when the sparks drizzled
you held up your wine
we could be handkerchiefs
for these falling stars
falling sparks
tonight we celebrate more than love.
and you're my smile
the one I crack when no one's around
and you're the ice in my glass
the one I chisel off when it's too hot
you're standing still but making me move
short year but well lived
long winter but well delivered
tonight we celebrate fascination
a whole new light for us to touch
striking conversations without saying a word
tonight we celebrate gravity
and graduation of us
and you held up your hands and said
"I won't pray, I've got you already"
and fading out
"I've got you already"
"I've got you already"
quieter: "I've got you already" like a whisper
no need for I love you
growing into a firefly
and you're my panacea
the stitches that hold my scars together
dancing from shelf to shelf on the tip of my tongue
in the deepest of thought in my mind
you're gravy for my dryness
you're everything, illness and all.
tonight you celebrate me
and tonight I celebrate you
in the ways we can only do right
and you're the words on my paper
the ones I can't ever seem to speak
and you're the strength in me
the one I can never seem to find
and you're the ink sliding off my tongue
the one tattooing my skin
you're beautiful, scars and faults and all
you're just so everything I can't describe it.
