Not really sure where to put this, so if you'd prefer it be somewhere else, please feel free to move it! My first piece for the month was a little rough since I was struggling with some art block, but! This is one of my original characters! His name is Mercury and he's an Inkling! I can't really emulate the Splatoon style, but I love the designs and colors in the game, and have so much fun drawing tentacle hairstyles... I have several characters based in this universe, haha. He's a serious guy and doesn't really care for PDA, so he's a bit bothered by some out of view affection in this piece, lol. And this piece, which I finished up yesterday! It's much cleaner because I was in a better mood for it, but I surprised even myself with how it came out. This is Titan and he's an octoling (like an inkling, but octopus based instead of squid). He's not a very nice person. He's manipulative and kind of dangerous, and definitely uses his looks to his advantage when it comes to getting what he wants. I've been meaning to draw him in this cropped hoodie for a while ever since I saw it going around online, but it took a few failed attempts before I got to this point! Drawing attractive characters is hard, haha.

Wow! These are REALLY good! Thank you for the background information too. I look forward to seeing more of your work! Do you do freehand drawings and then turn them digitally or is this all done from scratch digitally? Also, what program and tools do you like to use?

Thank you so much! I'm excited to share more stuff in the future! I have other pieces from this year as well, but I didn't want to make a huge wall of photos to scroll through, haha. I also wouldn't mind talking more about my characters in general. I'm not very skilled at longform writing, but I really enjoy character building and it's fun to talk about them. I do all of my work digitally these days! Well, sometimes I'll still do pencil sketches if I don't feel like hopping on the computer... But I use a drawing tablet and art program for pretty much everything. It was a bit difficult to get into since I have to look at my computer screen instead of my hand to see what I'm drawing, but I've been doing things digitally for over 10 years now, so I've gotten really familiar with it. I use the program Clip Studio Paint! It's got a lot of really nice features for art and it regularly goes on sale for cheap. I think I picked it up for around $20 a few years back, which is amazing considering all the features they have (and continue to add). As for my tablet, I got a new one last year and it's a big improvement from what I used to use, haha. I use the XP-Pen Deco Pro medium model. It's been a great investment for me, lots of drawing surface and some handy buttons for hotkeys on the side!

He's a pretty straightforward guy, but he takes his sweet tooth seriously! Thank you! My art isn't always this neat, but it's nice to go through the process of cleaning it up sometimes. They look amazing and I love the tentacle hair as well Thanks! I love doing the tentacle hair because you can really get creative with how it sits and what to do with it! A lot easier than normal hair for me, too, since there's fewer parts to it, haha. Looks good! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work, and learning more about your characters . I appreciate it! I'm excited to share more with you all, as well! Don't have anything I'm working on right now since it's been a busy week, but I might get a few older things together to post sometime.

thelucky7th Is this solely a hobby or do you do graphics professionally as well?

thelucky7th Is this solely a hobby or do you do graphics professionally as well? It's a hobby. I've thought about doing something professionally with it, but it's very hard to get your foot in the door. Takes a lot of networking and I don't have much of a social circle as it is.
Maybe once I improve my craft and get a bit better about the diversity of things and people I can draw I'll look into it, but I can't see myself ever being anything besides self-employed for this (aka, take commissions to draw things for people). I don't think I'd work well with a job like storyboarding or anything where you're under a lot of deadline pressure, haha.

I understand what you mean. I love writing (or maybe it's the idea that I love lol because I haven't done too much lately) ...but I can't imagine dealing with the pressure of deadlines!

Yes! It's a lot of fun and a good way for me to relax since most of the time when I'm drawing, I don't really worry or think about anything other than what I'm working on in the moment. There's a lot of pressure to monetize your hobbies, but that's a quick way to burn yourself out on the stuff you enjoy! For now, at least, I prefer to just draw things that make me happy.
