While he is obviously well-known for The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien wrote a number of amazing works outside of these classics and they make for some absolutely wonderful reading material. Has anyone ready any of Tolkien's works outside of his "big" works?
For me, personally, I absolutely adore his tragedies, specifically The Lay of Aotrou and Itroun and The Story of Kullervo, they're absolutely wonderful and he writes tragedies so well. He has a way of building worlds and characters that just pulls you in and it makes you care for the protagonists so very much. I would highly recommend anyone looking into his works beyond just LotR and The Hobbit, even Bilbo's Last Song is a wonderful little poem worth reading

I've never read any of his other works. He's obviously iconic, but I have to shamefully admit as a fan of literature, I'm not a big Tolkein fan. I've read both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings books. He is an amazing world-builder and an epic storyteller, I've just never been drawn in enough by his prose.

That's understandable, not every author is for everyone, and that's perfectly fine! I can understand not enjoying his prose, he does have a bit of an awkward flow to his writing at times, so it can be jarring. I can most definitely understand and appreciate that his works are not for everyone

I absolutely adore The Hobbit and enjoy reading the book to my toddler. Of course it doesn't keep her attention very long but I enjoy it none-the-less. I haven't read Tolkien's other works but I should!

I would absolutely recommend it if you get the chance! If you like The Hobbit you should read The Silmarillion or The Children of Hurin, very good books!

I've noted the Silmarillion and The Children of Hurin. I'm so behind on my reading list because I keep adding to it! lol
