I write sad songs because I cant feel what happy sounds like
I'm sure I must have known once, but it slipped through my hands just like all my hopeful plans
Percussive beats, they try to fill the cracks in me, but create canyons instead
I can't sleep I can't eat without this voice in my head
Screaming!
Nobody told me it would hurt this bad just trying to get through the day
Nobody told me that feeling sad could be a permanent state

The visualization you provided here, just wow! You have me turning my wheels over here how can I mimic this in my own poetry? Thanks so much for sharing.

Sharon, I tend to come up with these little snippets off of random bits of inspiration (a line in a song, a moment in a book/movie, people watching). I've started carrying around a notebook at all times to write them down when they come. I've found that the poems I'm most proud of flow off of those bits and pieces.

I need to make this common practice for me as well. Reading you say this I recall Dolly Parton saying something similar. She mentioned that song ideas hit her randomly like during conversations and such.

I'll just be doing something or talking to someone and a line or a phrase will just hit me out of nowhere. Then, if I don't write it down right away, its gone.
