Steve Jobs will be the first American from the computer industry to be commemorated on a postage stamp. Jobs, who passed away in 2011 from his decade long fight with cancer, created a multi-billion dollar company which has released products which have affected the world. Steve Jobs fits the Stamp Committee’s description of a stamps which would “honor men and women who have made extraordinary contributions to American society and culture.” Apple’s invention of the iPod permanently affected the portable media player industry. Since Jobs’ creation of Apple Inc. in 1976 alongside Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, Apple has always been at the front lines of technological research and innovation. After Jobs’ death in 2011, he was portrayed in nine films and documentaries, as well as eleven books and biographies. - Tyler Shibata
