Anyone else here at SD a sports fan? If so, what teams/clubs/sides do you follow? Personally, I'm a big sports fan. Played basketball, softball, and soccer growing up. I tend to be loyal to my home teams, which would definitely explain my NFL team of choice. Anyway, my teams are as follows:
NFL
Buffalo Bills - born and bred. I will stick with them till the bitter end. I've stuck through this many losing seasons, I'm just waiting for the day we make it back to the Super Bowl. It's gonna be amazing for Buffalo when it happens. . . . eventually. Especially if we can (someday) pull out a win.
MLB
New York Yankees - my first ever professional game was at Yankee stadium. They hold a special place in my heart. And they're awesome.
Washington Nationals - a pretty solid team I only really started following when I found out I'd be moving to DC before last season. Went to a couple home games this summer and they are definitely on my list.
NBA
New York Knicks - What can I say, I'm a NY sports girl. I still consider it my home state and the Knicks are an awesome team to watch.
MLS
DC United - I've supported DC for quite a while. Still haven't actually made it to a match yet, but will definitely have to go this upcoming season
English Premier League Footbal(Soccer)
Manchester United - ManU was the first soccer team I really followed and that loyalty has stuck.
World Cup Soccer (Men's)
Germany - A seriously talented team that made a really good run at the cup this past series. Maybe next time. It'd be nice to see them back on top. It's been a while since they've won (1990).
USA - Gotta support the home team!
World Cup Soccer (Women's)
USA - USA all the way. Our Women's National Team is a ridiculously talented group of women.
NHL
Buffalo Sabres - I am so happy hockey is coming back, you guys. So happy. Let's GO Pominville & Miller!
World Cup Softball
Team USA - Not only are they the home team, but I used to idolize Jeni Finch (even though pitcher was the only position I never played). It is always a good time to watch the US face off against Japan though. Epic rivalries are epic.
and now I am very happy that with the formation of the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League), I have two new clubs to support:
WNY Flash - they've been on the radar in previous Pro Women's leagues, but it's nice to see them getting a spot here and getting both Wambach and Lloyd from the USWNT, two amazing players. It'll be nice to be able to support them both on the road and at home when I visit the old home town.
Washington Spirit - Looking forward to having these guys play at home less than an hour away from where I'm living these days. Plus, they were allocated Ali Krieger, Lori Lindsey and Ashlyn Harris from the USWNT, which is awesome. I cannot wait to see the Spirit and the Flash face off against each other (though I'm not sure if I should root for Home Town or New Town in that case. Hmm....)
Anyway. . .
Any other sports nuts?
