Maybe we ought to have a guest contest, then again guests arent as regular either. I dunno though, shy people perhaps?

I guess you could say "new" topics. I see many of the topics some years old and not many replies which is a great shame.
Posting contests do help with forums that struggle to gain new members. Build a community too with helpful members and make sure the quality of posts are great rather then letting people just post a few words, try to get a discussion flowing.

You might find that a lot of the "guests" are actually google trawlers which are putting the site into their cache, it's also the same with yahoo.

You might find that a lot of the "guests" are actually google trawlers which are putting the site into their cache, it's also the same with yahoo. Does this mean it may attract more visitors when they are searching in search engines via specific keywords? I would love for people to type in "poetry forum" or "Creative Arts Forum" and have Serene Distraction show up as one of the results for website links. I don't know how to implement that though without having to pay for "Sponsored" links.

Yup that's pretty much what it's for. Basically Google will pick up on every little post that is on the site and if somebody searches something in google that has been spoken about on here, the forum will show on google. It doesn't tend to happen over night but give it a year and your forum (If active) will be found quite easily on search engines.
