I've been a huge fan of the whole Broadway scene for quite some time, but lately I've been really getting back into it, re-familiarizing myself with all of the soundtracks I haven't listened to in forever and falling in love with new musicals. I was just wondering if anyone else here at SD was into musicals/showtunes? If so, what are some of your favorite shows/soundtracks? I personally love: - Wicked - Spring Awakening - Rent - Repo! The Genetic Opera - The Wizard of Oz - The Phantom of the Opera and so many others. Those are just a few of the ones I've recently spent a lot of time with.

I like going to see a musical every now and then. I actually have seen a couple that you listed. Wicked and The Phantom of the Opera to be specific, and I enjoyed both quite a lot. Really, I think I have enjoyed all the musicals I have watched.
Besides the two that I listed previous, some other musicals that I have enjoyed are Les Misérables (In both English and Japanese) and The Producers.

I once played the youngest daughter in The Fiddler on the Roof That was a lot of fun. I really like Les Meserable as well oh! and Oklahoma! Phantom of the Opera will always be one of my faves, I can't believe I don't own that on DVD yet. hehe

Les Mis is classic. When Cosette sings"Castle on a Cloud", I get a little teary-eyed, not gonna lie.
The Producers is a great modern musical - "Springtime for Hitler" is one of the most hilariously wrong songs ever.
Sharon, that sounds like so much fun. I was in Annie Get Your Gun, Anything Goes, Singin' in the Rain, and The King and I in high school. Was always just in the chorus, but it was still amazing fun.
Have you seen Phantom live? If not, you need to - it is so much better on stage than on film. (Even though the movie is great and Emmy Rossum is awesome as Christine).
My mom has been saying for years that she would love to go see a Broadway show. While I can't exactly afford to take her to NYC right now, I did get tickets to Spring Awakening's touring show that comes through Rochester next month. Its a pretty risque show, so I'm rather interested in how she's going to react to it. I'll just have to do my best not to laugh at the look that will no doubt be on her face during the more "sexy" scenes. Lol. She'll probably be shocked but I think she'll really enjoy the show after she gets over the initial "Oh my!"

Yeah, I remember when I saw that song preformed on stage a mirror was brought over the actors heads, and looking down on them from it, one could see them dancing in the shape of a swastika. Hilarious.
