Radiohead
A part of me was curious and wondered if anyone else here listens to Radiohead. To me, they are the greatest rock band of recent years.
Now, I must honestly say, when I first heard them a year or so back, I really didn't think much of them. I was using Pandora at that time and every now and then one of their songs would play, and I would think to myself, this is pretty good. Who is this band? And I would check and see the name Radiohead. I would say to myself, Radiohead? Who are they. But anyway, I would click the, "like this," option and over time more and more of there songs would start popping up.
Eventually, I decided to search for them on my university's file sharing network. I found and downloaded all the albums I could find, loaded up my music player, and clicked to play them all on shuffle repeat. Now, I have to say, the first time I did that I don't really think I was ready for them. Or rather, I wasn't open to the idea of sitting down for a long period and listening to music I really didn't understand. As such, I only listened to them for a short while before returning to music I was more familiar with.
However, over the next month or so, I was watching this one TV show I had saved on my computer, and in the closing music for this show, there was this one song that I really came to like. Eventually, I decided I had to know what the name of the song was so I loaded up google and found my answer. The name of the song was "Paranoid Android", and I was a little suprised to find out the artist was Radiohead. I thought to myself, "Radiohead, huh. I download some their music, didn't I?"
So once again, I loaded up my music player on my computer, and I scrolled through the list of artists until I reached Radiohead. And once again, I began to play through all there music. But this time, I didn't stop listening to them after a short while. I let them keep playing on shuffle repeat. And with time, I began to recognize songs I liked. They began to reach me. The more I began to listen to them, the more I began to like them.
Later, I began listening to their individual albums. My early favorites were "The Bends" and "OK Computer". It seems like that is true for most new listeners of Radiohead. Those albums are the easiest to come to understand, I believe. And then, with time, I began to listen to more and more of there music, and I came to like them more and more.
They quickly became one of my favorite bands. They push boundaries, incorporate technology into like no other, and all around have music unlike anything else. If you give them the time they deserve, I believe they could quickly become one of your favorite bands, as well.
Like I said before, I would recommend first listening to "The Bends" and "OK Computer". "In Rainbows" can also be an easy album to get into for new listeners.
