Sometimes I like to have quiet but others I like to have music in the background. I wonder if the music influences the way I write. I've always wondered if certain musicians effect my brain and the way my poetic voice comes out. Ah well, here are the artists I listen to most when I write: - Tori Amos
- Emm Gryner
- Tantric
- Ani DiFranco (I swear a lot of poets I know listen to her just because she's incredible)
- Heather Nova
- Pearl Jam (it's hard to write to them because I end up just listening or singing ... but when I get in the right mood, they're actually quite inspirational)
- Sarah Slean
- Collective Soul (usually puts me in a good mood)

[glow=purple,2,300]hm... i think it depends really... i've written some stuff while listening to classical stuff... and JAZZ oh and instrumental stuff, but I don't think I've ever really written while listening to songs with lyrics. That's probably mainly because I HAVE to hear what I write. I'm very auditorial I have great difficulty reading "silently" when I'm in class and my teacher asks us to read silently i usually have to hold a hand to my ear and whisper the words aloud. Sometimes though a lyric may inspire me to write... especially if a song is saying something I'm really trying to express during that particular moment. [/glow]

Yeah, I find it nearly impossible to write (lyrics anyway) while I'm listening to music. I have to concentrate on the beat I'm going for, and music distracts from that. When I'm doing homework, I usually listen to The Trews, Melanie Safka, Phil Ochs, the Philosopher Kings, The Killers, Sam Roberts or The Harlots. Anything harder is usually quite distracting.
