“Sands of Time”
Holding the preciously bound book
In your hands
You slowly pry apart the pages
Its been so long since you recalled those old memories
And as you glance from page to page
You remember a time
A time when life seemed simple
Easy and enjoyable
When broken hearts didn’t truly exist
And your only worries were what would happen next recess
You flip through each volume
Traveling through those years in a matter of minutes
Cramming all those thoughts into one corner of your mind
Slowly you changed
Every day was different
And elementary feelings faded
Puppy love died
On came heartache
Your first true love
The one you had
The one you lost
Thinking it would last forever
Makes you feel a bit foolish now
Yet you stare down at his picture
And still your smile fades to a frown
Those tears spill from your eyes
And begin to slide down your rosy cheeks
Dripping down to the pages
Leaving stains upon perfection
Looking back on the fights
The ones between you and him
The ones between your friends
You find them silly
But you hold those memories dear
For they have made you who you are
And as you quietly close the book
You hear the door creak
It opens and in steps your husband
You smile as you see his face, perfection
He walks to you, he comforts you
Holding you in his arms
You don’t have to say a word, he understands
He was your first love
He was your only love
He was the one you had
The one you lost
Yet the one you returned to
When your world turned upside down
Though he was your dearest companion
Love etched its way into your hearts
And as waves wash away at the sand
Still inscribed are your names
Destined to remain together
For all eternity
Never to be erased
From the sands of time
