I ran to my room and slammed the door. I read the leters over and over. This just couldn’t be real, I told myself. What will happen next. My dad was already sick, they couldn’t keep him in bad health, could they? . I buryed my head into the pillow and cryed. I stayed there for what felt like hours when there was a knock on my door.
“ Go away!” I yelled.
“Emily, can I come in for a while?’ Mrs. Morgan asked.
“No you may not, and my name isn’t Emily! I am Sophia
Marie Collen, I was born here in Austria! I have never been to Boston and I just want to go back to room 44! I want to go home!”
Tears started pouring from my eyes. My face felt hot
and my throat felt dry. Mrs. Morgan came in and sat on my bed. She just sat there for a few minutes. Then I heard her crying. It wasn’t the quiet crying like it is when I am in bed at night pretending to be asleep. It was soft at first, then it just exploded. I don’t know why, but I jumped up and wraped my arms around her.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it. It’s just that ... I want
my parents back. I want to see my sister and brothers. I have never been away from them this long before.”
I said through tears. She put her hand on my head and we just sat there crying.
“Whats going to happen?” I asked.
“I don’t know Sophia, I just know we have to be strong.
Crying isn’t going to bring them home.”
I looked up at her as I wiped away the tears. “But this isn’t fair. They are after me, not her, can’t we just switch back?”
“No, it is to late now. Weknew what we where getting into when we came over here. Sophia, it will be alright. My little Emily and your family will get back together, don’t worry.” She kissed my head and walked out
of the room. Two months had gone by and there was still no word about my parents. The two men and the
woman came by once a week to see us. There where more people watching over them then I thought. The Burkley’s helped hide my brothers , The Kassels watched my Elisabeth and The Jordan’s hid my parents and Emily. They where all realy nice to us and everytime they came over, there was always food in thier hands. Mr. and Mrs. Kassel where Austrian, so I felt a strong connection with them. Mrs. Kassel always brought me Salzburger Nockerln, my favorite dessert. Mr. Kassel and I would talk about how life was before the war. The Burkley’s where from Canada and told me everything that my brothers where doing. I wished I could see them, but I felt better knowing that they where safe with them. The Jordan’s where realy close to Elie. Mis Jordan said she was the sweetest little girl she had ever met in her life and Mr. Jordan said she was always so curious. Their 19 year old son is in the U.S Air Force back in thier homestate of New York and sent them letters everyday. I knew they came by to help make us feel better, but some days I wish they wouldn’t. How could they just act like there wasn’t anything wrong?
Sorry it has taken me SO long to write a new chapter. I have been REALY busy and I was kinda stuck on what else to write, I will try to update later. And it will not take months for me to update. The more people who respond the quicker i'll post a new chapter. lol ;D
