a/n: I was asked for a contest on another page to write a poem about what I think beauty is . . . so this is what I came up with (but it may be too long for the contest since it said short, oh well, it inspired this)
Northern Ontario
where the frost crisps at the tip of a pine tree over a cooling lake just West of the sunset and lawn chairs resting without sleep where tiny little handprints meet the sand and draw circles with feeling clouds brushing each other as they drift away to uncover a sheer blue canvas
where there are stars visible in the complete daytime and the moon is watching like a cheesecake in the sky
where a splash from diving off the dock comes with a splash of laughter crowding the air waves with innocence and fearlessness where lullabies are nowhere near for the breath of the North sings your eyes shut fire roaring surrounded by a pit as it roasts the marshmallows from candied sticks awaiting a hungry mouth to pass it down all toasty brown
where the stars connect making dotted lines to form a shape and the milky way is seen from that resting lawn chair on a shaded beach
a breath taking story to tell with every corner you turn a curve of a smile with every face you pass where there are no boundaries and nature is on your side
where nothing else matters but now where happiness coincides and where time is on your side -
that is where true beauty lies.

I loved the visual these two lines gave me... how clear must the sky be to be able to see the stars in the daytime! How you compared the moon to cheesecake (almost sound random at first glance) but I can tell how the texture of the cheesecake the moon can resemble...and also how you might feel about the moon (almost appetizing) because it's so beautiful.
