Seems like in most work places this question, how are you doing, gets asked a lot.
Do you answer it honestly? Do you like being asked this?

It's a British tradition to say "I'm alright, how are you" no matter how you feel. You could be dying and people would say the same

I honestly loathed the question during my retail days.

It's going to be a magical day when I finally meet someone that doesn't say that they are just "alright".

When they get a full story, that is when the question will stop being asked.

Usually when someone at work asks "Hey, how are you?" I'll respond with something like "Well, I'm here" and then chuckle a little. It's just an automatic response at this point.

There's a few people on Reddit in one of the British subreddits that complain about this. Apparently people that have just arrived in the UK answer the question properly and have lengthy responses

Only if I actually want to talk about how I'm doing. If I'm not doing well, but don't want to talk about it, then I'll say "Fine" .

I tend to answer genuinely as more of a conversation starter - however, if it's just in passing or we have to talk about business straight away I keep it simple for pleasantries. "I'm doing great, how are you?"

I swear I answer this more in a office setting than retail, its like don't pass ask me that, sit down and let me unload my issues upon you.
