I've got a standard 9-5, Monday thru Friday type of job. How about you?

I get up when I want, I wake up when I want. I do whatever I want and no one ever tells me what to do.....It's called retirement, and I've been doing it now for over 10 years.......no worries. lol

Standard 9-5 for me as well, although at the moment, it's just Monday to Thursday since I have Uni on Friday. I got my placement through my university so my workplace has always made sure to change around my workdays based on my Uni timetable.

Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 5pm (although I don't get paid for my lunch hour ) Same. I think most positions in the UK have an unpaid lunch hour which is a bit annoying really. Especially when you consider how much time is wasted commuting to and from work, the least they could do is have a paid break.

I work Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night from 7pm to 7:30am. I like being off 4 days a week, but I'm tire of being tire. I've done the 9-5 and it was ok, but I didn't like working 5 days a week. I am also not a morning person lol.

I guess I'm lucky I work from home for four days a week, and even on the one day that I have to go into the office, it's only 20 minutes away from home... so, commuting is a bit of a non-issue to me!!!

I work 9a-6p Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday. 9a-4p Monday and 2p-10p on Saturdays. I would honestly kill to have a Monday-Friday gig, even if I had to work nights or mid-shifts. I haven't had any weekend days off in years. I don't get a paid lunch break, but I rarely take one anyway so that's a bit moot and I have a little over an hour commute each way which kind of stinks, but it (mostly) pays the bills.

Are you in retail now? Would you consider switching industries?

Sharon - yeah, I’m in retail management and HR so my hours coincide with when I’m needed at the store. I used to work 7-3 each of those days so even the weekends weren’t bad but we got a new general manager at the beginning of October and he completely changed around all our shifts. I’d honestly love to get out of retail. I’ve been looking but haven’t been able to find anything that isn’t exclusively commission based sales. I’m open to something like that but need to have a good base salary as well.

I’d honestly love to get out of retail. I’ve been looking but haven’t been able to find anything that isn’t exclusively commission based sales. I’m open to something like that but need to have a good base salary as well. I came from straight commission retail sales (furniture) so I completely understand your struggle with working retail hours. As a single person I actually loved it because I was off when I felt the rest of the world was not, so errands were a breeze. However, when I started a family I found out real quick that retail hours was no longer for me. Missing holidays, weekends, and evening fun quickly became uncool. My unsolicited advice, you might want to look at other HR positions in a different industry perhaps law firms, healthcare, or even financial companies. If you want a taste of sales but don't want to dive into the pressure to earn commission I'd recommend looking for entry level BDR or SDR roles, due the pandemic more companies are open for remote employees so it could be a plus for you if you decide to go down that route.
