I don't know how familiar you all are with ambient music, but the general idea is this: it's music that's meant to be, to some extent, in the background. It's meant to create an atmosphere. And of course, it is done with electronic instruments: synthesizers and the like.
The trick with such music is to give it some sort of form, so that it isn't entirely uninteresting...but not so much that it can't recede just below the threshold of active listening.
One of the musicians that does a great job with this is State Azure, from the U.K. He's extremely prolific: this song came out a matter of about two hours ago...let me know what you think.
