I'm sure all of you in Canada have heard about the shooting at Dawson College in Montreal, Quebec. For those not familiar, a shooting occured killing one woman and injuring many others (correct me if I'm wrong fellow followers). They found out that the shooter was a part of an online community called vampirefreaks.com.
In the newspaper, there was an article stating that a London, Ontario member of vampirefreaks wanted to go march in the next Children's Wish parade (raise money and such to shed some light on the members and community) - this left people in outrage.
Here's a DIRECT quote from the woman who wrote the article:
"Just imagine: Children's pareades populated by goth aficionados of blood and horror in their "fuck the mainstream" shirts and Vampire Freaks banners"
The Children's Wish foundation had no comment but the writer did:
"Stay home"
she writes. A member of vampirefreaks had this to say:
"It really is a tragic event; however, we do not condone or influence this type of behaviour in any way. Just because someone goes around shooting people and happens to be a member of vampirefreaks, doesn't mean that this website has influenced him to do such a horrible thing"
The article also said the shooter had photos of him with guns plus writings like this one:
"Turn this world into a cemetery" and "leave a river of blood in your wake"
then the Sun writer goes on to say:
"did no one online feel a responsibility to warn someone? It seems not"
I'm sorry lady but there are tons of people out there that say and do things like that online. You can tell people all you want - NOTHING is ever done. Maybe someone did indeed complain ... but there are so many people that do it, it's almost impossible to stop them all. I know not all these members of vampirefreaks are like the killer. It goes to show how little the "mainstream" know about anyone who isn't, well, mainstream.
Most of you here have read my writings - some are dark, murderous, bloody, what have you - but I write them because I am a writer. John Carpenter, Stephen King, Wes Craven, Alfred Hitchcock - are these men mad because of their thoughts? No. They put it in art. Many people will see others writing horrible things but do nothing. The reason for this is most people trust that these writers are not seriously thinking of committing the things mentioned in their art. A painter paints a picture of a murder - is that suppose to be a trigger into who that person truly is? Maybe ... but most likely, they are not going to go and kill someone because they like that in art.
I'm sorry, I'm just totally against what this woman is saying. She is discriminating against goths and how they, the Toronto Sun, could even be bold enough to publish this is beyond me.
Ted Bundy was what seemed to be a loving husband and a good man. He turned out to be one of the most notorious serial killers in North America and around the world. Should we be terrified of loving husbands? I think not.
