[glow=black,2,300] I wrote this for my prom this past year. My class advisor approached me and asked me to write a poem dedicated to last year's senior class to be put in the prom program. This is what I wrote.
A billion stars Are out tonight. We take a moment To look upon them. For now, we’ve no worries About the life that lay ahead. Tonight we dance. We smile, we laugh; Perhaps we even cry, For times passed And memories missed. The final song plays And that bittersweet melody Shall remain a constant Reminder of this place, This time, these faces. Soon, we shall part, As the world drags us In varying directions, But tonight . . . Tonight we remember, And promise To never forget.
corny, I know, but I was on like a two-day deadline. [/glow]

I didn't go to prom so I can't really relate. I was dying to get out of high school and forget the people that didn't want a thing to do with me because I was "different" ... but I still liked this poem.
"And that bittersweet melody Shall remain a constant Reminder of this place, This time, these faces."
--you may realize that I have a thing for music ... and when people write about it in poetry, I just love it.

"Tonight we dance. We smile, we laugh; Perhaps we even cry, For times passed And memories missed." My junior prom came and went and I had the most awful time of my life, but when my senior prom rolled around I was sad to see it go by... I loved it, I went with my fiance who i am now married to... it was great... anyways, these lines I can totally relate too.
