I have been writing haiku for quite awhile. I am wanting to know if you are supposed to put a period at the end of a haiku you write.

I'm not an expert at haikus or anything... but I don't think you HAVE to have a period at the end. I know that haikus typically have the 5,7,5 format but I don't think any one has every emphasized on the importance of having a period at the end. I could be mistaken - any one have anything to add?

I'm fairly certain a period isn't required at the end of a haiku

As Sharon said, as long as you have the 5/7/5 you should still be withing the bounds of haiku. In some of the examples in the article I included below, there is no punctuation. www.wikihow.com/Write-a-Haiku-Poem
