Do you have a favorite "type" of poem? What sort of poems... or themes of poems rather do you tend to lean towards? Inspiring ones... Dark ones... Do you like to read and write about the same theme(s)? What do you look for when you read a poem?

I tend to write about what I like to see in other poetry ... but I do write about a lot of things. I try to keep an open mind and I like to try different themes.
What I like to see:
-incorporating your opinions into a poem -creepy, dark, supernatural writings -death -birth -incorporating music into a poem
What I don't like to see:
-mushy stuff -clichés -overly dramatic poems -poems that look like they'd be on a bad Hallmark card -god, the bible, or anything that has to do with religion where they are praising it

i like poems that make me feel, E. E. cummings is probably my favorite poet right now, my favorites tend to shift, with my mood, much like music shifts as my mood shifts

I like to write and read about love. It's so interesting how people can see it in so many ways, and it comes out alot in their poetry. It's what I write about most too.
I don't like to see the "feel-sorry-for-me-poems" but if it's genuine and true then you can tell where the emotion is. I guess it's really a matter of emotion. If it has none, I tend to not like it.

I like all sorts of poetry, though I find that I lean away from Love poetry, both in my readings and my writings. It could be due to the fact that I've never been in love, but even I admit that's a pretty shoddy reason. I don't know....there just aren't many love poems that I am fond it. I often find them fairly corny or superficial. It really depends.
I suppose the poetry I like to write most is fairly random. Just Life in general or emotion....not necessarily any theme that I stick to. Just whatever I happen to be feeling at the time.
The same goes for my reading habits, though I find that I am far more drawn to darker, more angst-ridden or thought-provoking poetry than light hearted stuff.
