[shadow=red,left,300]“In the Time It Took to Wave…”
He grabbed his briefcase & headed for the door
W/ every reluctant step his thoughts became more intense
He hesitated before sliding his hand over the brass doorknob
Thinking to himself, I’m returning to an empty, lonely apartment
He glanced out the window that had taken up most of the same wall where the door was located
A modern day damsel in distress stood outside his office hysterically distraught
Yet, he looked at her and saw no weakness, only beauty and strength
He paused, frozen in time the minutes continuing to pass
His fellow employee caught him staring & motioned him over to his desk, desperation in his eyes, almost as if it was a plea for help
The matter was settled in minutes & the dilemma did cease
Never did he look away from the elegant diamond standing before him
The women thanked him along w/ he first man she had consulted w/ her financial predicaments
He viewed her as a princess, a queen not as a peasant
And as she departed you could hear his heart breaking, splitting into two
Yet, no actions did he take, he continued on w/ his life
But upon the next full moon’s wane he stood star struck on the sidewalks edge
For from across the street on his way to the local coffee shop
He had spotted the lady who had stolen his heart at first glance, not so long ago
He raised his hand, waving to her, eyes glazed over in admiration
She waved back, and then stepped inside the glamorous restaurant across the street & into the arms of her lover
His charming grin slipped into a disheartening frown
Once more he raised his hand, and slowly waved good-bye
And yet again, he took no action
In the time it took to wave a simple greeting and farewell
The flickering candle of his heart had diminished dimly leaving nothing but the glowing embers
But the hour passed and along w/ the time so did his travels
He realized that the embers he was left w/ had not only foretold and end to his love for the lady but had set ablaze to it as well
And the only way to spark his love life would be to begin again, and seek another to steal his heart
He learned his lesson the hard way but never will it be forgotten, that only another devoted heart can heal one wounded, only affection can bring life to a barren field
